One focus, two focii » Mission in Action
What the bus ads could have said…but didn’t Preaching – monologue or dialogue?
Jan 15

The Local leadership families will be meeting in a couple of weeks for an afternoon called “Putting It All On The Table”.  It is what is says – a chance for all of the families who are involved to voice their views and values, express their hopes and fears, ask any question they wish and hear from me as to what I see the future looking like. I’m looking forward to it, though I am sure there will be a few surprises that surface – these things tend to work that way.

One of the issues I don’t want to let go of is our commitment to mission in our context and to that end a blog post from Tim Chester is timely on this issue.  What will our focus on mission be?  We have a wide variety of contexts spread across a large geographical area.  While we all live within a ten minute drive of each other (most as close as three minutes) it has struck me just how widespread our influences are in a vehicle-oriented city such as Perth.   I guess with a name like The Local you can imagine what my preference will be, but there are myriad number of contexts in a group which includes business people, teachers, household managers, consultants and students.  My primary aim will be to ensure that we are enamoured enough with Jesus and his salvation that whatever context we find ourselves in will be one we aim to influence for him.

Check out Tim’s link – it’s got a very helpful graphic.

Hey McAlpines, your silent readers are glad to have you back blogging again after the december hiatus. It’s good to hear about how things are developing in the Local, your putting it on the table afternoon sounds fun and exciting look forward to hearing more about how it takes shape.
    Love to you all

Thanks Rob and Beth. The hiatius is indeed over though with the temp hovering around 30 degrees all night last night I feel like having another hiatus until about April. Seriously though, there is definitely a feeling among us that we are starting to get the wheels in motion.
