Statement of Faith in story form » Mission in Action
The Year that Was Heroes
Nov 14

I’ve noticed that even with the new funky evangelical churches and their graphically impressive websites that their Statements of Faith often look like they are lifted straight from the First Baptist Church of Springfield (founded 1882 – Ed). The front end of the website may look impressive, but somehow you get the impression that some things haven’t been thought through as well as they might have been.  It’s as if they were about to post the new site when somebody said “Hey, shouldn’t we say something about what we believe?” and they raised over to the filing cabinet and pulled something out: “Hey we’re a cool church everybody, a cool evangelical church.”

You may have gathered that this was leading to a shameless plug, but the new Statement of Faith from The Crowded House is an excellent example of how such an important document can be written in an engaging and thought-through process.  Steve Timmis and Tim Chester have put a lot of work into it, and all of the networks of The Crowded House, (including us here at The Local) were asked for our input.  The result is an impressive and concise statement that ties in superbly with the biblical narrative.  It fairly zings along from start to finish – or should i say finish to start, since it begins with eschatology.

Check it out here. If you want to adopt or adapt it to your own crew perhaps get in touch with Steve or Tim to talk it through with them.

Looks good – grouping it in those sections also makes it easier to take in and remember.
