The Godless Delusion

The best article I’ve seen yet on the whole Dawkins/Hitchens “we hate religion” spiel was published in The Guardian on the weekend.? It’s written by a secular writer who is no real friend of Christianity, and it makes for a riveting read.? It’s an incisive critique of the claims made by the anti-theist crew and displays the huge holes in their arguments.
Check it out here.

hi steve – thanks for this… I went to see Alister McGrath speak about The God Delusion last month. He similarly dismissed the idea of “memes” and argued that science should respect its limits, and that it’s wrong to pretend to be doing science when you’re really doing metaphysics. In general, though, McGrath wasn’t really speaking theologically or philosophically – he was speaking as a scientist who had scientific quibbles with Dawkins. Overall, the event was worth attending – but on reflection, I wish he had talked more about the God of Jesus Christ.
On another note, interesting that the best thing you’ve encountered on this issue is not coming from a defensive Christian perspective… I know that for myself, the most powerful and memorable critique of The Da Vinci Code that I read was not a Christian critique – it was a comedy book called “The Va Dinci Cod” – it started off hilarious, and ended up devastating.
Incidentally, I’m starting a little theology blog of my own, and I’m hoping to start paying better attention to the blogworld!
