Get a haircut and a real job » Mission in Action
Yeah baby! Drinking in the Street
Aug 29

Well, since the haircut would be superfluous to me, I’ll have to settle for a real job. I’ve starting applying for jobs back in Perth (marvels of the internet – Ed) so reality is starting to sink in – we’re going back!

One job in particular strikes me as worthwhile – that of an Advocacy and Support Case Worker for those at high risk of losing their tenancies. It’s a half-time gig, and that would fit in well with our plans when we get home, especially in relation to church planting. Hamo said to me that he’s doing some teaching because there’s always a tendency to sit and surf the net if you don’t, especially in suburban Perth!

Unfortunately I am not nearly as eminently employable as Jill, (nor as fine a specimen of humanity – Ed) not could I ever hope to earn the same type of money she could earn as a Clinical Psych, but for the time being that will be fine. In fact Hebrews 13 this week reminded me that “for the time being” may well be for the rest of my life, and it will still be fine because of our God.

I wouldn’t mind doing some writing work, but that tends to be ad hoc and I really need a fixed income. I have been looking in vain for the following type of ad: “Tortured writer required. Arts and Theology degrees preferred: 50k and a car to successful applicant.” I still remember as a 19 year old going out on the town while my now Professor of Neurology twin brother sat swotting for science exams. How we laughed at him. Wonder where it all went wrong?

Don’t worry – we were laughing at you as well as him. Just for different reasons.

Hope the job hunting goes well. I’ll be in Perth next week, but the way.

Embrace the inevitable. Once you scorned your brother, now follow in his footsteps. Write a doctoral dissertation. Three years of tortured writing for regular (if crappy) money.
Good to see you the other day, BTW Dave.

You guys met up? And without me!

Steve, see my comment on the t-shirt post.

I’m hoping to be in Perth in January, so the three of us can be in the one place at the one time for the first time, and celebrate appropriately.
